Film Study Tip for DBs + a DB Mentor?

Hey Defender of the Airways,

Your DB tip is below, but first check this out because it comes from the heart…

Let Me Be Real With You

I know how it is. There is seemingly a ton of information on the Internet and social media regarding any topic you want to research.

There is always that feeling: "I don’t need to invest in anything. I can always just find the information that I need for free." I won’t argue that.

What’s to stop you from watching a YouTube clip here, an Instagram video there, and a couple of Twitter videos from this one and that one? With all this free info, I can find everything I need to be elite.

I hate to burst your bubble. If that were the case, everyone would be A+ in anything that they set out to do.

The Mentor Mentality

In this case, what we’re talking about is playing and/or coaching defensive back. Anyone who is great at anything at some point had a mentor. Someone took them under their wing and poured their information into them. They didn’t get to their elite status by piecing together information from 100 different people. They also didn’t get there by grabbing a piece of info here and a piece of info there from people with a wealth of knowledge.

You need a full-time mentor. You need a coach. If you have a great one now, then I am happy for you. You are blessed. If you don’t, then your path to getting where you need to be is to find one.

The next question is, if I am going to have a mentor, who do I choose?

When it comes to playing and coaching defensive backs, let me steal a line from Jay-Z: “Allow me to introduce myself.”

The Resume That Delivers Results

Here’s what I know for sure: you won’t find someone in the defensive back space that has all of the following:

  • Coached in college by a pro football Hall of Famer (Willie Brown)

  • Played on the number one team in College Football (1992 Miami Hurricanes)

  • Signed an NFL contract to play cornerback (Seattle Seahawks)

  • Coached Little League football

  • Coached high school football

  • Been an offensive coordinator in high school

  • Been a defensive coordinator in high school

  • Had two sons drafted to play cornerback in the NFL (Quincy & Marco Wilson)

  • Had the number one and number two ranked cornerbacks in the country as a DB coach (2018 Pat Surtain II and Tyson Campbell)

  • Trained College Football All-Americans (several)

  • Trained defensive backs for the NFL Combine for over a decade.

  • Trained NFL Defensive Player of the Year winners (Xavien Howard & Pat Surtain II)

  • Trained over 40 NFL defensive backs

  • Written a book that has sold hundreds of copies, including to college football players, coaches, and NFL players.

  • Maintains an online member’s area where he posts educational information on technique, strategy, and coverages compiled from over 20 years in the business.

You might find someone who has one or maybe two of these, but you WILL NOT find someone with all of the above.

If I were going to take myself to the top and needed a mentor, this would be the resume I would pursue.

The Cost of Waiting

Perhaps I can’t train you or see you in person. Bummer!

That’s why I wrote a book. That’s why I created a member’s area. Here’s the thing… even the people I train in person have my book and are in my member’s area.

Question is: Why aren’t you?

Does it cost too much?

To spend a whole offseason training with me in group sessions (not 1-on-1 sessions), it would cost you in excess of $700.

But let me ask you, how much do you think it costs to not get a college scholarship, make an All-American team, get drafted, not get that coaching job, or not have your players ultimately prepared for their season?

$1,000s? Tens of $1,000s? $1,000,000?

Anyway, I could go on and on.

The Take Action Bundles

But who wants that? Having to essentially brag about myself like this is uncomfortable. I realize it has the potential to make you hit the unsubscribe button, but some things just need to be said.

I promise you this: If you bought information from me on how to hang shelves in your living room or how to dominate in Call of Duty, it would be worthless.

However, if you wanted to know everything you needed to know to reach your full potential as a defensive back or as a coach of defensive backs, there’s no better person to learn from than me.

Whatever situation you get into on the field, sidelines, or meeting room… I have been there.

So buy my book, I wrote it for you. Join my member’s area, I created it for you.

I am in the holiday spirit, so I created these bundles for you and discounted them. So you can up your knowledge AND save money.

But I am only going to make these available to the Go Getters! That’s who gets on the field and who makes plays.

I promised you a DB Tip Right?

Studying film if you are new at it can be hard. After all, there is a ton of stuff going on that field. There is the down and distance, the formation, the personnel and 11 guys going in seemingly 100 different directions.

If you want to simplify things for you in the beginning of your film studying journey, do this. Locate the running back.

Running backs either get the hand off, block for the QB or go out for a pass. No one else on the offense has that many responsibilities play after play.

For him to perform those functions, he must line up in specific places before the snap.

Chart where the running back is located on each play and what play is run. You’d be surprised at how much you can find out.

I go more in-depth on what the RB means in film study in….. you guessed it The All Eyes DB Camp Member’s Area - so come see me there.

Thanks for Reading!

Thanks for putting up with my disgusting bragging but I want you to hire me for the job. The job is making you the best damn DB you can be. I will keep my fingers crossed.
