It's All on You Now

Your 2025 season is in your hands

It’s all in your hands. There is so much talk about politics in football these days. With the NIL, transfer portal + the Kansas City Chiefs and Taylor Swift, there is constant talk about the system being “rigged”

Do yourself a favor, get those thoughts out of your head. If you think the system is rigged against you then you are already beat before the game is played.

The truth is that football teaches you about life and in life successful people focus their efforts on the things that they can control. Forget about your height and how long your arms are.

You have the power to improve your speed, your mass, your strength and your football IQ. Become elite or close to it in those areas and there’s no stopping you from your goals.

This offseason, put your focus in those areas whether you are 6’2” or 5’7”. A technically sound DB with a high IQ can play this game at it’s highest level.

So make it a point to acquire as much knowledge as possible about this position while you continue to develop your body into what it needs to be to win. Next season, like the sun tomorrow morning is coming.

DB News

This makes me want to vomit. Look at all these yards these WRs racked up this high school season. Imagine a guy torching defenses for roughly 200 yards receiving per game.

DB Tip

Your eyes are a very important part of catching the football.  However,  life as a defensive back is different than that of a WR.  Most of the times a WR will see the ball being thrown by the QB and have the luxury of tracking it from the QB his hands to his.  That’s not the case for DBs.  DBs must be able to track a ball in mid-flight.  Always do ball drills that involve you seeing the ball late to avoid panicking when you are caught in that situation in a game.

DB Fact

Al Brosky of the University of Illinois holds the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) record for career interceptions, with 29 picks from 1950 to 1952. In Division II, Tom Collins of the University of Indianapolis set a higher mark with 37 interceptions between 1982 and 1985.

These records highlight the exceptional ball-hawking abilities of these players, setting benchmarks that have stood for decades.

You Keep Getting Pass Interference Penalties, and Here’s Why

Sure, if you’ve been following me for any amount of time, you’ve seen me occasionally criticize referees for pass interference calls. No doubt, the game is changing, and what you are allowed to do as a DB in coverage is shrinking. However, some of you are racking up pass interference penalties, and it has to do with things you are and aren’t doing. Here are some of those things…..
