All Eyes DB Camp News: Locked IN, Drive the in Cut, Divider Line & More
Welcome, reader!
Are You Locked IN?
No matter where you are at this point in the season, your attention is required. Maybe your team is rolling and on course for the postseason. It seems obvious you need to be locked in—but the season is long. It’s easy to lose focus. That’s not what elite players and strong teams do. In fact, they do the opposite.
Mediocre teams and players succumb to fatigue and start to fall off in key areas. Film study decreases, work on technique fades, and attention to detail declines. The best players and teams know better. At this point in the season, they double down in all of those areas.
Now is the time to crank up your film study and uncover the tendencies of the better offenses you’re about to face. When the games and moments get more intense, the only things you can truly rely on are your technique and your confidence. Elite players know they need the maximum of both in the postseason.
Finally, it goes without saying: the teams that end up winning it all—and the players who earn All-American honors—are the ones who give the most attention to detail. Did I just describe you? If not, it’s not too late to start molding yourself into that standard.

Film Room Focus: Why Technique Isn't Just What You Do, But How You Study It
We talk every week about the importance of mastering your pedal, hip flip, and reading the offense. But the truth is, getting better faster comes down to having a single, organized reference point for every single technique.
Most defensive backs learn new skills piecemeal—one drill here, one tip there. The truly elite players work from a master blueprint that connects the fundamentals to the big picture.
The challenge is organization. How do you keep 101 complex techniques clear, concise, and ready to use in a single glance?

What Is It?: “Divider Line / Red Line”
The divider (often called the red line) is an imaginary lane a defender uses to shrink the throwing window to the sideline. Picture a line a few yards inside the sideline—typically near the bottom of the numbers. Your goal is to steer the receiver so that by step 3 of the release he’s on your side of that line. Once he’s there, fades and comebacks must be pinpoint; the QB runs out of grass.
