Now, here’s your DB Tip:

Catch-man technique can be very effective against slot receivers and tight ends. For some, though, it can be tough to master. If you’re learning or teaching catch-man, try these:

✅ Focus on the waist
Because of the distance at the snap, it’s easy to see too much. Lock your eyes on the receiver’s waist and keep that focus through contact. One trick: tilt your facemask down slightly so your view of the torso is limited—it reminds you to keep your eyes low.

✅ Move laterally vs. his stem
The receiver’s burst off the line makes many slot defenders back up. Don’t. Hold your line. When he stems inside or outside to avoid you, slide laterally to meet him. Avoid retreating at all costs.

✅ Think “contact”
What’s in your head matters as he closes space. If you’re thinking “run,” you’ll back up or open your hips. Instead, think “contact.” That mindset helps you hold ground, keep your shoulders square, and get hands on to disrupt the route.

Give these three tips a try the next time you play the technique and watch them improve your effectiveness.
